Mr. Novara is the First Assistant Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh). A 1987 cum laude graduate of Brooklyn Law School, Mr. Novara began his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Gustave Diamond, United States District Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Following his clerkship, he was a litigation associate for three years at Cahill Gordon & Reindel in his home town of New York City. He subsequently returned to Western Pennsylvania in 1992 for a brief stint in the chambers of then-Chief Judge Diamond. He was hired by the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Pittsburgh as an Investigator soon thereafter, and became an Assistant Federal Public Defender there in 1994. He has been the First Assistant since 2004.
