James G. Maurer has distinguished himself throughout his professional career in the telecommunications industry, in corporate America and in volunteer service to his community. Mr. Maurer currently serves as Vice President of External Affairs for AT&T Illinois managing the company’s team of local representatives throughout the state of Illinois. He reports directly to the President of AT&T Illinois. He has served in multiple management positions for AT&T, including its legacy companies Southwestern Bell, SBC Communications and Ameritech. In 1998, Mr. Maurer was named as director of Regulatory for SBC and served in that position at the company’s corporate headquarters in San Antonio, Texas. Earlier, he served as community relations manager for Missouri municipalities, a government relations representative and in regulatory operations in Missouri. After SBC acquired Ameritech in 1999, the company asked Maurer to move to Madison, Wisconsin, as executive director of the External Affairs/Governmental Affairs team. His job was to dramatically improve service for SBC customers in Wisconsin. In just three years, his leadership helped cut by 75% the thousands of complaints filed against the company in Wisconsin. Five years later, under his leadership, annual complaints statewide had fallen to just 43. He also continues to serve the community in fire service as a firefighter/paramedic in the Maesytown Fire Department. Maurer also serves on the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Board, and the Illinois State Fair Board. Mr. Maurer earned his bachelor’s of science degree from Southeast Missouri State University and his MBA from Lindenwood University. Mr. Maurer and his wife, Lisa, live on a farm in Waterloo, Illinois, they have 5 grown children, and I grandchild.
