Creating a Culture of Social Emotional Well-Being through Trauma Responsive Care
We will provide a model for collaborative approaches to social emotional (SE) wellness and trauma-responsive care. We illustrate MH consultation’s potential to support and maintain a culture of SE wellness, supporting staff, child, and family well-being and ways that SE health has been integrated into every aspect of our ECE environments.
Objectives: define and contextualize trauma (including cultural context); discuss trauma-responsive care and how this supports SE development for all children, particularly those impacted by systemic inequities; discuss what trauma responsiveness looks like in the context of various roles working with children, families, and staff; and discuss the role of MH consultants as partners in SE development, including use of telehealth to support the consultation process.
Recognition given to the Pyramid Model to contextualize supports provided to all children and defining, at different levels, what SE supports are available as the need for more targeted supports present themselves. This is presented in context of the approach used at Allies, with concrete examples at each level, and can be adapted within agencies given their needs and available support.
