Vincent Cable was Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills from 2010 to 2015 and Member of Parliament for Twickenham from 1997 until 2015 . He studied economics at Cambridge and Glasgow Universities before becoming an economic advisor to the Kenyan Government and to the Commonwealth Secretary-General. From 1968 to 1974 he lectured in economics at Glasgow University. Later, he served as Chief Economist for Shell. Dr Cable was elected as the MP for Twickenham in 1997. Dr Cable served as the Liberal Democrats Treasury Spokesman, was elected Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats in March 2006, becoming Acting Leader for two months in 2007 until the election of Nick Clegg. He was knighted in the Dissolution Honours Lists on 27 August 2015.
