2017 Session Content
Security Track:
Every organization has budget constraints. Choosing security controls that give you the best bang for the buck is a dance that security and IT professionals have been doing for decades. This session will explore security fundamentals and develop a list of priorities and estimated costs. Topics covered will include “what’s new” in the perimeter, endpoint, monitoring/testing, and incident response defenses and cost effective options for achieving a reasonable baseline level of security in any organization.
Speaker: Lisa Heckler, CISO & VP Information Security & Privacy, CareSource
Organizations deal with risk every day. Senior management and Boards are taking more interest in how risk is prioritized and managed within their organizations. This panel will share strategies for cost effective, cyber risk management along with the creative risk transfer options available today, and how to evolve the risk management function to drive value in the selection of control strategies within the organization.
Speakers:
Jim Lash, President Hylant Cincinnati, Cyberinsurance
Barry Wilson, Phillips Edison, Director Risk Management
Mike Dockery, Chief Information Security Officer, Cincinnati Insurance Companies
JD Rogers, Chief Information Security Officer, Greater American Insurance
The way we work is changing. Future virtual workforces may predominantly work in the mobile cloud. Security implications such as malware, data security, and compliance will still exist for the emerging mobility and cloud technologies and services.
This session will cover security and compliance strategies for two mobile cloud case studies. LexisNexis will present a commercial use of mobile cloud and Great American Insurance Group will share an enterprise approach.
Speakers:
Bruce Maxfield, Lead Enterprise Architect, LexisNexis
JD Rogers, CISO, Great American Insurance Group
Big Data and Analytics Track:
Leveraging Microsoft Azure, we were able to create a fuzzy based algorithm to assist in Master Data Management. Our experience opened our eyes to the cost effective and highly productive cloud based infrastructure to support analytics. Analytics can create highly dynamic resource needs causing a constant firefighting mode for infrastructure. With cloud based analytics, we were able to provision capacity needed in a “just in time method”, reducing cost and improving functionality.
Speaker: Brett Starr, VP/BI & Data Management, Cincinnati Financial
Can you talk to your mathematician? Storytelling is the "last mile" in turning analytics into action. This session explores the techniques used to communicate problems and solutions in a simple, succinct and meaningful manner.
Speaker: Stuart Stockton, VP Business Intelligence, Macy’s
With the expansion of data and the recognition of its value by many organizations, the role of a Chief Data Officer is a new role that is joining the ranks of the Senior Business leadership. Guy Peri, VP, Chief Data Officer for P & G, will discuss how the role came to be, its responsibilities and its ongoing value to the growth of their organization. Learn about the application of data science to help the enterprise better understand and serve their customers and employees. Embedding and exploiting science takes a combination of creativity and rigor. This session will explore the best practices for data science.
Speaker: Guy Peri, Vice President, Chief Data Officer, Procter & Gamble
Talent Track:
In the era of digital transformation, the strategic relevance of technology is becoming ever more critical. This workshop will explore ways that the IT organization can arm itself to become a true partner to the enterprise: refocusing the IT organization on business-essential functions, supporting enhanced customer-centricity, and driving innovation. Specifically, we’ll focus on three critical IT leadership disciplines to help you and your enterprise confront the challenge of digital transformation:
Speaker: Mike Jennett, Vice President, IDC Executive Programs
A subgroup of “Talent Managers” (people whose ‘day job’ is hiring IT/Tech talent for their respective companies) was launched to actively manage an emerging portfolio of programs and resources (Public Sector and Private) devoted to the expansion of Tech Talent in our Region. The sub-group represents the “Demand” for Tech Talent and the various programs/providers are actively addressing the “Supply” of Tech Talent. The latter includes, Education, Public Sector funding/resources, non-profits, and for-profit companies.
This session will present the early findings/results of this sub-group and engage the broader audience in a discussion to help prioritize the programs/resources available and to seek their active involvement in the most impactful programs that will dramatically increase the IT/Tech Talent pipeline in our Region.
Speakers:
IT Talent Managers Working Group Members,
Geoff Smith, Co-Chair, CIO Roundtable,
Jordan Vogel, VP Talent Initiatives, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce
With over 2,000 unfilled IT jobs in our Region and less than 1,000 seniors graduating from regional universities with “IT-relevant” degrees each year, companies need to look beyond “Traditional Recruiting” and consider filling a portion of their positions based on skills/credentials vs. 4-year college degrees.
Over the past 3 years, companies in our Region have hired nearly 300 individuals coming from “non-traditional” backgrounds into a variety of IT roles (support, QA/Testing, and Application Development) after they’ve successfully completed tech “boot camps”.
The proven results beg the question of can/should we drive these programs to scale – more hiring companies, more jobs, more trainees. A collaborative of tech-hiring companies in Washington, including Microsoft and Amazon has developed a robust, registered apprentice program for 13 distinct IT jobs/roles. Come learn about how these programs can be reapplied in our region in a way that will allow us to scale up non-traditional sources of talent while mitigating risk to the employers and providing incentives.
Speaker: Jennifer Carlson, Executive Director, State of Washington Technology Initiative
Leveraging Modern Technologies Track:
Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain technologies enable new ways of radical automation. Welcome in the age of Algorithmic Business. But only with an extreme customer focus, these technologies will deliver their value. By doing so, transformative business models come within your reach.
Speaker: Michiel Boreel, Chief Technology Officer, VINT
In late 2016, BMW decided to shift its IT organization from working in a traditional waterfall model to an Agile/DevOps model. Brian will share his experiences in the first year of their journey as the organization rapidly transforms itself. He will share best practices, lessons learned and the positive impact the transformation is already having on the organization.
Speaker: Brian Johns, Enterprise Architect, BMW Financial Services
Executive Track:
For the morning Keynote Session, we assembled a panel of CIO’s from across the country, moderated by author and CIO consultant, Martha Heller. This breakout session will capitalize on having this group assembled, plus a few other local CIO’s to dig a bit deeper into topics driven by the session attendees – a highly interactive for attendees to hear different perspectives from CIOs outside of their current organization.
How to apply the techniques of Breakthrough Thinking to achieve extraordinary outcomes in your organization and as a leader.
