Nigel S. Vass, Esq. is Vice President of Commercial & Business Development for Mitsui O.S.K. Bulk Shipping (USA) in Houston, TX. He has been located in Houston since 2012. His work lately concentrates on negotiating FSRU projects in North and South America. Since graduating from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1989, Nigel has served in a plethora of maritime-related roles. Such roles includes sailing as a licensed officer, marine personnel manager, marine insurance broker, risk manager, claims, marine operations, and Admiralty attorney. Previously, Nigel worked for BGT Limited as Vice President of Operations and Risk Manager. BGT (formerly known as Burmah Gas Transport) had eight LNG carriers built by the Quincy Shipbuilding Division of General Dynamics. Most of the vessels served the Indonesia-Japan trade. At the time, the trade was the largest LNG transportation project in the world carrying 150 to 160 cargoes annually. Outside of the marine world, Nigel has an interest in technology and holds a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certificate and a Networking Engineer certificate from Chubb. He obtained a Juris Doctorate (JD) from the Pace University School of Law in 1995 and has been admitted to the Bar of the states of NY, NJ and CT.
