About the Plenary Sessions
The 2017 Putting Care at the Center plenary sessions will bring together and give voice to leaders in the growing field of complex care. Jackie Judd, special correspondent to PBS NewsHour, will moderate. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to attend all plenaries.

Coalescing a Field of Complex Care
This opening plenary panel will examine what it will take to coalesce a field of complex care. Individuals with expertise in core elements of the field, such as trauma-informed care and social correlates of health, will converse in this moderated session alongside experienced pioneers of parallel movements, such as palliative care. The panel will analyze what resources and knowledge the nascent field currently has in place, and what opportunities and challenges are ahead as the field continues to develop.

Role and Experience of the Consumer
This panel will connect examining the current role of the consumer in the world of complex health and social needs, then explore a future in which the patient is a fundamental leader in his or her care. Panelists are consumers with experience working and volunteering in this field, who will explore how storytelling and relationship building have been critical in their own personal and professional advocacy. They will also describe their vision for consumers as the field of complex care continues to develop, and how conference participants can apply these lessons to their own work.

Learning from Parallel Social Movements
This panel will draw from the experiences of leaders from significant social movements. Panelists will share their personal challenges and triumphs as they work to empower the populations they serve. This panel will connect the long-time work of social justice movements to complex health and social needs priorities, and examine what current practitioners in this new field may learn as they serve their respective populations.

Lessons from Complex Care in California
This panel featuring prominent California health care leaders and advocates will reflect on the opportunities and challenges that the state currently faces. With California’s large, diverse population, participants will be able to learn from local and statewide policies and specific models of care that have shown success. Panelists will also share effective practices and research that have emerged, as well as lessons from MediCal 2020 and Whole-Person Care Pilots. Finally, the panelists will discuss sustainability for the state’s policies and how other communities and states can learn from California.
