William W. Mance, Jr. is the retired Vice President for Human Resources for Mission Hospitals, in Asheville. He is also a retired U.S. Army colonel and has held several other management, executive, and board positions in western North Carolina and elsewhere. He has been a business owner and operator. He owned an entertainment business for a few years and a management training & development firm for over four years. He is a past chairman and member of the Mountain Area Workforce Development Board, a member of the board of UNC-TV and the advisory board of the Asheville Self Help Credit Union. He is also a counselor for the Asheville chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). Bill has taught diversity and the valuing of it over 20 years to more than 5,000 leaders and employees in a variety of business organizations, including manufacturing, healthcare, and churches. He is married to the former Diane Smallwood of Washington, DC. They have three adult daughters. Bill and Diane live in Asheville.
