NaTasha Smith is a native of North Carolina who is passionate about her work as the Certification Specialist for the Charlotte Business INClusion (CBI) program. The CBI program seeks to enhance competition in the City of Charlotte contracting and procurement opportunities for Minority, Women and Small Business Enterprise (MWSBEs). NaTasha’s drive to educate the community about CBI has gained the attention and recognition from members of the City Council and community partners. The Charlotte Business INClusion program provides benefits for both the City and the business community in our region. Participation in the program helps the City increase its contracting opportunities with MWSBE companies, resulting in greater job availability and business growth for the local business community. In addition to contributing to the economic well-being of the region, bringing new MWSBEs into the pool of companies doing business with the City enhances the City's competitive bidding processes and allows the City to track its spending with MWSBE firms. In addition to collaborating with City departments and the diverse business community to communicate, educate and engage stakeholders in meeting the CBI policy objective, NaTasha has also contributed to the success of the CBI program’s MWSBEs spending by making sure there are companies certified to receive contracts through the City. As one of the two Certification Specialists for the CBI office, her work has contributed to the FY2017 year ending of 873 certified MWSBEs in the CBI database. Although NaTasha holds a MBA in Health Care Management, she has found a bigger passion outside of the healthcare field working as a diversity inclusion advocate for the MWSBEs.
