    Leading from a Decisive Point
    Col. (Ret) Lee Van Arsdale

Black Hawk Down tells the story of how US Special Forces intervened in Somalia in 1993 after the local militia strongman declared war on the UN peacekeeping mission and then attacked Red Cross personnel.  The plan to capture the militia leader’s deputy went sideways when one of the special forces helicopters was shot down and US special forces were surrounded and trapped by local militia. Colonel Ardsale led the rescue mission to extract the survivors, and was the technical consultant to Ridley Scott who filmed the movie.  As a 30 year Delta Forces Commander turned businessman, he has learned the battle tested lessons of planning for the unexpected.  As Prussian Field Marshall Moltke once said “No battle plan survives contact with the enemy. The commander in chief will keep his great objective continuously in mind, undisturbed by the vicissitudes of events. But the path on which he hopes to reach it can never be firmly established in advance”.  This lesson is as true for business leaders as military leaders, and Colonel Arsdale will share the lesson he has learned about how to plan for the expected.

Economic and demographic shifts will have a profound impact on our businesses and what will be required to compete and succeed in the future. We’ll delve into these issues, the common mistakes leaders make and focus on the 7 prescriptions for success in the new environment.
