Give Our Youth A Hand! Clean Up A Future Youth Center in Bayamón
DIFFICULTY: Level 1 (Easy)
DESCRIPTION: Get ready to help and bring Casa Ramon closer to reality. We will be cleaning and collecting garbage from the areas surrounding the outdoor recreative and future favorite space of the teenagers who will be staying and spending time in this future collective home.
LOCATION: Hogar Fatima, Bayamón, PR
SUGGESTION: Participants should wear long pants, long sleeves shirt, closed toe shoes and must bring their own reusable water bottle. Snacks and water for refilling water bottles will be available. You will be working outside, please wear sunscreen lotion and/or bug spray as needed.
Read Aloud & Book Distribution: Luis Lloren Torres & Santiago Iglesia

DESCRIPTION: Volunteers along with American Reading Company will visit two elementary schools. Each school will receive 100 books for grades k to 2. Volunteers should circulate around the classroom and read side by side some of the students.

Native Tree Nursery Maintenance and Tree Planting in UPR Botanical Garden
DIFFICULTY: Level 1 (Easy) Maintenance: Recommended for participants of all ages
Level 3 (Difficult) Tree Planting: Requires good physical condition to carry out hikes of a considerable distance along rough terrain. Participants must be willing to carry out physical and/or manual labor, hike through uneven terrain and be exposed to diverse field conditions, including variable weather and the flora and fauna of the area, among others.
DESCRIPTION: Join Para la Naturaleza's efforts to produce native trees for the 750,000 reforestation and production goal in their Native tree nurseries. We will be carrying out several activities supporting the maintenance of the native tree nursery and planting trees.
SUGGESTION: Closed-toe shoes (tennis or hiking boots), long sleeve shirt, long and comfortable pants, hat, sunscreen, reusable water bottle, insect repellent.
Supply Distribution at Health Center in Hatillo with GNYHA

DIFFICULTY: Level 1 (Easy)
DESCRIPTION: In conjunction with SOMOS, Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA)and the ASYA Foundation will host a visit to the Centro Médico Hatillo, an FQHC in Hatillo. GNYHA and ASYA will deliver medical equipment and supplies to the clinic. Lunch will be provided near Hatillo, where we will speak with Centro Medico staff about the region’s ongoing health needs after Hurricane Maria.
LOCATION: Hatillo
SUGGESTION: Volunteers should know that travel time for trip is approximately 1.5 hours long. Participants should wear comfortable shoes.
IsraAID's Community Resiliency Kit Distribution in Patillas
DIFFICULTY: Level 1 (Easy)
DESCRIPTION: During the Day of Service, SOMOS participants will tour IsraAID's newly built electricity-free water filtration system and learn how the community will continue operating the water system in the future; attend a lecture on IsraAID's Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Program (WASH); visit a school and meet with WASH Program Ambassadors; and, learn about IsraAID's psycho-social services (PSS) that has helped the community to increase their coping mechanisms and resilience after the traumatic events of the hurricane. SOMOS participants will also be distributing resilience kits.

Deliver Food to the Needy in Cataño & Bayamón

DESCRIPTION: Participants along with Caribbean Produce Exchange will pack, store and deliver produce to Food Bank of Puerto Rico, Banco de Alimentos de PuertoRico. Banco de Alimentos has over 100 partners to deliver to, which include shelters, soup kitchens, churches and more.

Color of HOPE Paint Project in Humacao
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate)
DESCRIPTION: Join the PECES team as they put the finishing touches on the many houses the organization has supported through the rebuilding and re-stabilization of the many homes and businesses gravely damaged by the passing of Hurricane Maria in Punta Santiago, Humacao. In this volunteer experience, we will be painting the outside of a house.
LOCATION: Centro de Sostenibilidad, Punta Santiago, Humacao
SUGGESTION: Please wear long sleeves shirt, long pants, closed-toe shoes. Bring your water in are usable water bottle and have cash available for yourself if you desire to have lunch in the area.
Native Tree Nursery Maintenance in Barranquitas
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate) Requires enough physical condition to carry out hikes of a considerable distance along difficult areas.
DESCRIPTION: Join Para la Naturaleza’s efforts to produce native trees for the 750,000 reforestation and production goal in their Native tree nurseries. We will be carrying out several activities supporting the maintenance of the native tree nursery in germinations seed beds, transplanting seedlings to the high tunnel area, prepare bags with soil for new trees, among others.

Native Tree Planting in Maunabo
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate)
DESCRIPTION: Planting native trees in Punta Tuna Nature Reserve, in Maunabo. This is a Nature Reserve co-managed by the community and the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources.
LOCATION: Siembra de Árboles, Punta Tuna, PR 7770 Km 0.9 Bo. Emajaguas, Sector PRRA Maunabo
SUGGESTION: No shorts or tank tops. We recommend bringing hats, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle and insect repellent.
Basketball Court Clean-Up & Paint in Capetillo
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate) Requires enough physical condition to carry out hikes of a considerable distance along difficult areas.
DESCRIPTION: Help the Capetillo Community of Río Piedras to rescue their neighborhood’s basketball court. Activities will include green area maintenance and repainting the court surface.
LOCATION: Capetillo, Rio Piedras

Maintenance of Ecological Gardens in Hacienda la Esperanza, Manatí
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate) Requires enough physical condition to carry out hikes of a considerable distance along difficult areas.
DESCRIPTION: Ecological gardens are spaces where plants, insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and humans interact with our land. Come to work in our garden in Hacienda la Esperanza Nature Reserve and learn how to improve the soil in a positive way, how to produce compost, to sow, and take care of your plants and produce food.
LOCATION: Hacienda la Esperanza Nature Reserve, Manatí

Caño Martin Peña Clean-Up Effort
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate)
DESCRIPTION: Work side by side with the Fidecomiso de la Tierra as they start to prepare the plot that in the near future will be the home of dozens of families. The plot of over5,000 meters where multifamily homes will be built, has accumulated a lot of vegetation and garbage after the passing of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, most if it will be handled by heavy machinery, however some of the vegetation need to be weed out manually as to not damage the neighboring houses
LOCATION: 125 Calle Quisqueya, San Juan
SUGGESTION: Please bring a reusable water bottle with you. Long sleeve shirts, long pants and a hat are encouraged. Closed toe shoes are a must, no sandals. You will be outside, please protect your skin with sunscreen lotion and stay hydrated.
Let's Keep Schools Open! Clean Up a School in Carolina
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate)
DESCRIPTION: Roll up your sleeves and let's get to work so we can re-open one the most important spaces in a community, our community-run school. The volunteers will work on the separation and relocation of debris and unwanted garbage so that they can be transported to the Carolina landfill. They will also help sort and bring back to life objects in good condition to be relocated in one of the classrooms that have been designated as storage space for now.

Clean Up & Paint in Cialitos, Ciales
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate) Requires enough physical condition to carry out hikes of a considerable distance along difficult areas.
DESCRIPTION: Clean-up and refurbish the community center (trash clean-up, painting basketball court and community center, cut the grass, and pressure washing)
LOCATION: Cialitos community in Ciales

Get in the MangrOOve! Weeding & Planting in The Natural Reserve of Cataño
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate)
DESCRIPTION: The service will include an orientation on the background of the Juana Matos Community, their 30+ years efforts on protecting and restoring their neighboring Nature Reserve, and the importance of these efforts. The work will take place in a nursery where from seed to sprout, CARAS and community members help grow our mangroves, who are a natural filter that provides us with more clean air than the common tree and are the most important shield against the damaging effects of global warming. The nursery was destroyed after the passing of Hurricanes Irma and Maria and the daily maintenance work has double ever since. CARAS also works with clearing the paths, weeding and planting throughout the Natural Reserve.

SUGGESTION: Long sleeves shirts, long pants, long socks, hats and protective closed toe shoes are required. Bring your water in a reusable water bottle, sunscreen lotion and bug spray. Work gloves are not required but highly suggested (gloves will NOT be provided). Caras suggests volunteers bring an additional clean outfit in case they prefer to change after the activity.
Clean-Up and Paint The Corredor Afro Center in Piñones/Loiza
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate)
DESCRIPTION: Corredor Afro site is located in Pinones/Loiza one of the historic Afro descendant communities in Puerto Rico. A coastal area both hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated homes in the community already impacted by the fiscal crisis on the island. Loiza, a strong community with a rich legacy of culture, art, culinary traditions has been effected by high unemployment, closing schools and dispossession of land as people leave their homes seeking better opportunities.
LOCATION: TerraPlan, Piñones/Loiza
SUGGESTION: Wear cotton comfortable loose clothes, closed-toed-shoes, hat/headwrap
Native Tree Planting in Ceiba
DIFFICULTY: Level 2 (Moderate) Requires enough physical condition to carry out hikes of a considerable distance along difficult areas.
DESCRIPTION: Planting at least 75 native trees in the Medio Mundo y Daguao Protected NaturalArea in Ceiba. Also, giving maintenance to trees in the area near the Medio Mundo Visitor's Center.

Field Cleanup for Tree Planting in La Loma de La Niña Mariana in Humacao
DIFFICULTY: Level 3 (Difficult) Requires good physical condition to carry out hikes of a considerable distance along rough terrain. Republica del Perú School Painting and Check Presentation
DIFFICULTY: Level 3 (Difficult)
DESCRIPTION: During this trip participants will paint and plaster.
LOCATION: Escuela Republica del Peru - Calle Loiza Final 2056 The school will also prepare lunch for the volunteers.
SUGGESTION: No shorts or tank tops. We recommend bringing hats, sunscreen, a reusable water bottle and insect repellent. Volunteers should dress comfortably and expect to carry out tasks related to painting.
Clean-up The Future Eastern Ecotourism Center in Ceiba
DIFFICULTY: Level 4 Difficult
DESCRIPTION: Volunteer work will include cutting grass and removing rubble from surrounding areas as well as general cleaning of first floor, painting, removing ceiling panels, removing carpets, disposing of rubble/debris outside of the structure.

Distribution of Donations in Juncos to Benefit Casa de Todos

DESCRIPTION: Amgen will sponsor this event, arrange transportation, departing from the El San Juan Hotel in Isla Verde and will provide a tour of our manufacturing facility in Juncos after our activity is complete.
Together with legislators and volunteers, Amgen will arrange for delivery of donations

DESCRIPTION: To assist the continued recovery on Vieques post Hurricane Maria. The goal of the mission is to assist survivors along their journey of recovery and self-reliance. The history of Vieques necessitates we address, the already heightened predicament going back many decades, only to find Hurricane Maria taking the people of Vieques to even greater crisis.
