When diverse, dynamic people come together, incredible things can happen—Nashville is proof of it. Teach For America began our partnership with the Nashville community in 2009 through the leadership of Mayor Dean and a group of local philanthropists who came together to bring more high-performing teachers to the city. Since that year, we have recruited and trained over 800 teachers for high-need Nashville classrooms and built our network of alumni and corps members to over 1,000.

Through the development and support provided by Teach For America, corps members have been found by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) and the State Board of Education to be among the most effective teachers in the state for the last six years in a row. In 2018, Teach For America began a partnership with the Chattanooga community to extend our impact in East Tennessee, and the region formally became Teach For America Nashville-Chattanooga. We are excited to welcome our first cohort of 15 Chattanooga corps members in the summer of 2019!

Teach For America works in partnership with urban and rural communities in 53 regions across the country to expand educational opportunity for children. Founded in 1990, Teach For America recruits and develops a diverse corps of outstanding leaders to make an initial two-year commitment to teach in high-need schools and become lifelong leaders in the effort to end educational inequity. Today Teach For America is a force of 56,000 alumni and corps members committed to profound systemic change.
