Join us at Shark Tank: Teacher Edition
Each year, teachers across the country spend $1.6B out of their own pockets to support their classrooms. While the national average teacher salary is just $47,000, this can take a lot out of a teacher's income. Teach For America Kansas City teachers will be pitching ideas for projects to improve their classrooms, schools and community. A panel of sharks made up of local corporate and civic leaders will take a bite out of this staggering figure by directly investing in these projects. Past sharks have included: Mayor Sly James, Salvador Perez, Hailee Bland-Walsh, Shirley Helzberg, Julee Jonez, Angela Cervantes and so many more. The fourth annual Shark Tank: Teacher Edition presented by Teach For America Kansas City is on October 24th at the Arvest Bank Theatre at the Midland. The event will celebrate, highlight and elevate the teaching profession with 700+ attendees (philanthropists, civic leaders, education professionals, etc). 5-6 PM: VIP Reception with Sharks and Teacher Contestants (Event Sponsors invited by invitation) 6-7 PM: General Admission Reception featuring food stations curated by Open Belly and open bar + Silent Auction 7-8:30 PM: Pitches + Sharks' Debate 8:30-9:30 PM: Dessert + Networking 8:45 PM: Silent Auction Closes Be sure to follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to ensure you don't miss special announcements. About Teach For America: Teach For America recently celebrated its 10th anniversary in Kansas City. We came to Kansas City ready to tackle education inequity head-on. We were on a mission to build a diverse network of leaders who would fiercely champion, advocate, and teach our youth. But on our charge, we were met with heart. And a whole lot of it. We locked arms with Kansas City and rallied year after year. We continue to recruit, support and mobilize outstanding leaders to expand educational opportunity, beginning with at least two years teaching in an under-resourced public school. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with students, educators, and community members, corps members go beyond traditional expectations to support the academic and personal growth of their students. The impact Teach For America corps members have in the classroom fuels a lifelong commitment to their students and shapes the trajectory of their lives and careers.
