    2020 Hematology and Oncology Update

    Conference Overview

    This half-day symposium will serve as an update on a range topics, including  benign hematology and malignant hematology; a COVID-19 cancer consortium; the role of geriatric oncology in treating older patients; targeted therapies, including proton therapy; and understanding the team approach to cancer care for better outcomes.

    This symposium's target audience is primary care physicians. Other types of clinicians who may be interested: Oncology Physicians, Hospitalists, Advanced Practice Providers, Researchers, Oncology Nurses, Medical Students.

    Learning Objectives

    1. Identify common causes of anemia and how to evaluate for these.

    2. Recognize common hematologic complications of COVID infection and their implications/treatment 

    3. Recognize available treatments for AML and MDS, including how hematologists determine which treatments are appropriate 

    4. Learn tools used to assess effect of functional status and co-morbidities on cancer treatment toxicities and decision making in older patients
