Revolution or evolution: what lies ahead for Indian Higher Education?

    10-11 February 2021

In the wake of the pandemic, Indian higher education is faced with many challenges and opportunities on the road to excellence. The sector is growing at a substantial rate meaning that it could become the world’s largest higher education nation, but how many will have access to universities that are truly world-class?

During this essential two-day forum, we will explore the resource deficit impacting online teaching and learning in Indian higher education, along with the barriers to social and cultural equity in education provision and participation.

Leaders and academics from across the subcontinent will discuss the implications of the recently approved National Education Policy, the massification of the sector and address how steps towards internationalisation and potentially opening up to international branch campus provision could put Indian higher education firmly on the global stage.

And finally, we will consider what more universities, government and industry can do to enrich the national innovation ecosystem in light of the consistent improvement in the global innovation index rankings.

To accompany this forum,  a data masterclass will examine the latest Times Higher Education data on the performance of Indian universities and provide an in-depth presentation on the rankings within an Indian context. The forum will welcome an open dialogue on the most effective methodologies and the impact of international rankings on higher education development in India.

    Topics we will discuss include:

    • Access to education - face-to-face and online
    • Implications of the National Education Policy
    • Massification and internationalisation
    • The innovation ecosystem
    • Rankings, data, and success
