Backing the Brave: Conversations on the global fight for abortion access
About the Event
Planned Parenthood Global is the international arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. In our 50 years of global work, Planned Parenthood Global has had the greatest impact when we have invested in brave actors and supported them to be even braver, having their back as they fight on the front lines of sexual and reproductive health and rights. We have partnered with on-the-ground leaders everywhere we work as they spark and sustain progress at the leading edge of the SRHR movement. As we commemorate our 50th anniversary, we are joining a robust discussion with leaders of the SRHR movements in Ecuador, Argentina, Ireland, and Kenya. As we see challenges and roll-backs to abortion rights in the United States, there have been incredible wins around the world, with brave women and young people putting their bodies on the line in the fight for bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom. This conversation will celebrate these victories and explore several key findings from these successes, centering our partners on the ground who led this amazing movement. We’ll also look to understand how these successes can shape a blueprint for Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations. In this session Alexis McGill Johnson will be joined by Dr. Virginia Gómez de la Torre of Fundación Desafío Ecuador, Nelly Munyasia of Reproductive Health Network Kenya, Florencia Alcaraz of LATFEM Argentina, and Ailbhe Smyth of Together for Yes in Ireland.
