Data Savviness and Leadership
ABOUT THE EVENT
High levels of flux and uncertainty, burgeoning amounts of data, a proliferation of game-changing analytical and communication tools including Artificial Intelligence combined with the speed at which data is becoming available, is having a profound impact on decision making and on the capabilities required of leaders. This is why we are making "Data Savviness" the theme of our next "Peer to Peer" event on 4 July 2022.
To us "Savvy" means “Shrewdness and practical knowledge and the ability to make good judgements”. So, with the help of our Chair for the evening Patrick Dunne, we'll start by exploring together what it means in practice to be a data savvy leader drawing on some topical examples.
Our ability to know what data we need for big decisions, to evaluate and interrogate is essential but by no means enough. Being Savvy also means having the ability to combine the insights and evidence we get from the data with diverse perspectives on what this and other inputs mean and then to make and communicate the right judgements. It's not just about the knowledge, it's what you do with it. So, we will also share experiences of producing effective data strategies and competencies as well as practical tips for improving our own data savviness and avoiding the perils of being "Data Devoid" or "Data Drunk".
Patrick Dunne is an experienced chair and author of the award winning book "Boards" as well as two influential articles on this topic "From a Maps to a Satnav World - The way boards are taking decisions is changing" and "How data savvy is your board?"
