Delta Gamma
Dedicated volunteers, supporters, and advocates for the visually impaired community
Glaucoma Research Foundation has had a long connection with Delta Gamma (DG) including Service for Sight grants from their Foundation to support our patient education programs and each year DG collegians volunteer at our annual Glaucoma 360 events. We are proud to honor this important partnership and recognize Delta Gamma and the Delta Gamma Foundation with our President’s Award.
Founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, today Delta Gamma has more than 250,000 initiated members, with 150 collegiate chapters and over 200 alumnae groups across the United States and Canada. The objects of this fraternity are to foster high ideals of friendship among women, to promote their educational and cultural interests, to create a true sense of social responsibility and develop in them the best qualities of character.
Support of the visually impaired community has been at the heart of the Delta Gamma mission since 1936 when a member who lost their vision petitioned to adopt “Aid to the Blind” as their official philanthropy. Through their program, Service for Sight, Delta Gamma founded five schools for children with visual impairments and supports other US based organizations that provide access and advocacy for people in the blind or visually impaired community or who promote sight preservation and conservation.
