Introduction to Dual Language Immersion (DLI)
About the Event
This session will draw upon the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education and provide a firm foundation in the basics of dual language education including the Three Pillars of Dual Language (bilingualism/biliteracy, high academic achievement, and sociocultural competence). Guided by Principle #2 of the Guiding Principles, participants will delve deep on dual language pedagogy, including understanding dual language program models, creating immersive conditions, and strategic language separation. Participants will also learn about equalizing the status of two languages, explore content knowledge as a bridge across languages and learn high-leverage instructional strategies that build comprehension, support active engagement, and intentionally build multilingual proficiency.
