Cellular Insights Series: Exploring Cellular Dynamics with Advanced Microscopy

    Free Virtual Event

    Now ON DEMAND

Exploring Cellular Dynamics with Advanced Microscopy

Prof. Manley will speak on how fluorescence microscopy has long been a cornerstone of cell biology, and yet its potential is often limited by photon budgets. Join us for an exclusive webinar where we introduce Event Driven Acquisitions (EDA) – a breakthrough microscope feedback loop powered by neural networks to recognise dynamic events and adapt measurements in real time. As a proof-of-concept, EDA prioritized mitochondrial fission events and extended capabilities to phase contrast microscopy and channel switching, enabling detection of mitochondrial pearling and organelle contacts. These innovations reveal new mechanisms for mitochondrial content management.

In this webinar, Prof. Ben Loos from Stellenbosch University will also speak about how age is a major risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. With 22% of the global population projected to be over 60 in the next 25 years, most in developing countries, South Africa faces heightened vulnerability.

Beyond imaging, explore the evolution of cell models – from immortalized lines to physiologically relevant systems like primary cells, stem cells, and patient-derived cells. Learn how advanced 3D spheroids and organoids deliver deeper insights and translational impact, while addressing microenvironment challenges affecting biological data interpretation.

    Key Learnings:

    • Understand the concept of smart microscopy
    • Explore real-time neural network-based detection
    • See how adaptive imaging accelerates biological discovery
