    Course Content Overview:

    A 4-hour, fast-track certificate for investigators, prosecutors, and brand-protection partners. Taught by Thomas Dougherty, Senior Counsel of the Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS), bringing real-world experience and ethical training to criminal IP enforcement. Learn what makes IP crime “criminal,” how to build better cases, and how to work public-private seams more effectively—then walk away with a CTIPS Org Certificate of Completion. - DESIGNED FOR - • Law enforcement & prosecutors (local, state, federal) • Brand protection & investigations teams • Customs officials and policy staff • Analysts, OSINT researchers, and private investigators - WHAT YOU WILL LEARN - • Spot when IP violations cross into criminal scale and what evidence actually moves a case. • Translate copyright, trademark, and trade-secret concepts into actionable elements. • Map evasion tactics (bulletproof hosting, fast-flux DNS, reverse proxies, mirrors) to investigative responses. • Work smarter with customs (recordation, detention vs. seizure, samples/testing, info-sharing). • Structure public-private collaboration: what to ask for, what to provide, and how to keep data usable. • Anticipate a prosecutor’s checklist to increase the likelihood of filing. • Connect IP crime to related offenses (smuggling, ML, tax, wire/mail fraud, computer intrusion) to strengthen charges. * Counts toward the education requirement for CTIPS exam eligibility* **This is not enrollment in the CTIPS certification program.**
