About Teach For America
Teach For America works in partnership with urban and rural communities in 50 regions across the country to expand educational opportunity for children. Founded in 1990, Teach For America recruits and develops a diverse corps of outstanding leaders to make an initial two-year commitment to teach in high-need schools and become lifelong leaders in the effort to end educational inequity. Today Teach For America is a force of 56,000 alumni and corps members committed to profound systemic change.
From classrooms to districts to state houses across America, we're reimagining education to realize the day when every child has an equal opportunity to learn, to grow, to influence and to lead. Teach For America is a proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network. For more information, visit www.teachforamerica.org and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
About Teach For America Los Angeles
At Teach For America Los Angeles, we believe that all students, regardless of neighborhood, should have an expansive, affirming K-12 educational experience, enabling them to thrive in college and propelling them forward as the next generation of leaders. Our mission is to find, develop, and support a diverse network of leaders who expand opportunity for children from classrooms, schools, and every sector and field that shapes the broader systems in which schools operate.
The Los Angeles region was one of Teach For America’s original sites which opened in 1990. Since this time we have learned what it takes to operate as a thriving leadership organization in service of students and families who deserve more from our education system.
We have an urgent need to transform the education landscape in Los Angeles. Educational inequities persist in our city and not all students have access to quality academic opportunities. We believe the key to an exemplary educational system is leadership. It starts with educational leadership pipelines at the classroom and school levels, and then expands to wide-scale efforts throughout every sector. Our talented educators teach and lead in school districts and charter schools in some of the highest-need neighborhoods in Los Angeles, including Watts, Huntington Park, Lynwood, East Los Angeles, South Gate, and the San Fernando Valley.
