Charles Gross is the Director for Prior Learning Assessment and Military Credit at the University of North Carolina General Administration. During his twenty-year career in the United States Air Force, Charles was heavily involved in the formal education, training, and professional development of military and civilian managers and leaders. Upon retiring from the Air Force in 2006, Charles began working at Western Carolina University as the Director for Military Education. During his five years at Western, he served as the chief university point of contact and primary advocate for military-affiliated students, working with faculty, staff, and university administrators to streamline all processes affecting military-affiliated students, and to raise campus awareness of veteran issues. Charles also worked for two years at Montreat College as an academic advisor and student veteran coordinator. Since beginning work at UNC GA in February of 2015, Charles’ main focus has been to carry out the mandates of Senate Bill 761, which requires the UNC Board of Governors and the State Board of Community Colleges to optimize the process of granting academic credit to students with military training and occupational experience.
