California Department of Education (CDE) Achieving Success in Positive Interactions, Relationships, and Environments (ASPIRE) Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS®) Support Series
About the Event
This event focuses on implementing the CLASS 2nd Edition Pre-K–3rd framework within mixed-age classrooms, specifically those serving children ages 2–5. We will explore how the Emotional Support, Classroom Organization, and Instructional Support domains work together to create responsive, inclusive environments for younger learners with emerging communication skills. The session will examine practical strategies for Concept Development, Quality of Feedback, and Language Modeling, emphasizing how nonverbal cues—such as gestures, facial expressions, and imitation—reflect vital cognitive processes. Participants will learn how to adapt strategies like parallel talk, scaffolding, and rich narration to support children who are not yet conversational, ensuring every child thrives regardless of their verbal stage. This is a critical opportunity for administrators and educators to strengthen their ability to accurately interpret and support the learning of younger children in mixed-age settings.
