District Science Teachers' Community of Practice, Physics - Grades 9-12
About the Event
District Science Teachers Community of Practice – Secondary Network. These Community of Practice (CoP) sessions are designed to bring together both formal and informal secondary science educators to engage in professional learning, stay informed, and build supportive connections. The meetings provide a space for teacher leaders to explore relevant topics, including science assessments, student performance data, grant opportunities, instructional resources, and evidence-based teaching practices. Participants will also receive updates from regional county offices of education and learn about upcoming science education events across the region. Each session will feature guest presenters and subject matter experts who will highlight emerging trends and share insights on innovative science education topics. Core themes will include STEM/STEAM integration, the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), California Science Framework guidance, and strategies for supporting English Learners through ELD-aligned instruction. These gatherings are not only a hub for professional learning but also a launchpad for leadership. We encourage attendees to bring back ideas, tools, and strategies to their school sites and districts to support broader science implementation efforts. A “district science teacher leader” may be a classroom teacher, department chair, grade-level lead, or instructional coach who has been identified by their site or district as a representative for science education. Who Should Attend: High school science teachers, instructional coaches, TOSAs, and STEM leaders at the site or district level. LCFF Priorities: 2, 3, 4, 8
