Empowering Communities: Building Disaster and Emergency Preparedness in NYC
About the Event
In partnership with the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation in Queens NY, Verizon is proud to convene local civic, community and business leaders for a conversation focused on strengthening community resilience and disaster preparedness. As communities face increasingly complex disruptions, helping communities and small businesses prepare, adapt, and recover is essential to building stronger, more resilient communities. This event will bring together disaster resilience experts and community leaders, including representatives from the Greater Jamaica Development Corporation, New York City, United Way of NYC, and Verizon to explore how communities, businesses, nonprofits, and the public sector can work together to better equip neighborhoods before, during, and after a disaster. Attendees will learn more about the resources, partnerships, and tools that can help protect residents, communities, and small businesses. Beyond preparedness, the discussion will examine the role that cross-sector collaboration can play in building neighborhood preparedness, emergency communication and long-term community resilience. Drawing on Verizon’s Community Disaster Resilience initiative and the expertise of local and national partners, the conversation will highlight practical approaches to empowering communities and creating a more connected, prepared, and resilient NYC. Invited guests will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle of emergency preparedness items at the event. All raffle participants are responsible for complying with applicable ethics and gift rules. Government officials and government employees may not participate in the raffle. After the program, United Way of NYC will distribute emergency kits for attendees.
