    About Teach For America

At Teach For America, our first promise is to kids–to provide them the equitable and excellent education that they want and deserve. Founded in 1990, Teach For America recruits and develops a diverse corps of outstanding leaders to make an initial two-year commitment to teach in high-need schools and become lifelong leaders in the effort to end educational inequity. Today, Teach For America is a network of 64,000+ leaders whose experience in the classroom sparked a lifelong commitment to expanding opportunity for kids and working towards profound, enduring educational change.

From classrooms to districts to state houses across America, they’re reimagining education to realize the day when every child has an equal opportunity to learn, to grow, to influence and to lead.

Teach For America is a proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network.

There is an urgent need to transform the education landscape in Los Angeles. Inequity in our educational system is pervasive as race, income, and neighborhood have a tremendous influence on a student’s ability to receive a quality education. We believe in the brilliance of students facing these profound obstacles and are determined to bring about a more rigorous, equitable education system that will nurture their potential. Transforming public education in Los Angeles starts with brilliant, effective, and diverse leaders in the classroom and then expands to wide-scale efforts throughout every sector.  Teach For America corps and alumni play a pivotal role in rethinking how the educational landscape can better serve all students as they lead in classrooms, offices, and boardrooms to create lasting change.

In Los Angeles, our talented educators teach and lead in school districts and charter schools in some of the highest-need neighborhoods in our region including Watts, Huntington Park, Lynwood, East Los Angeles, South Gate, and the San Fernando Valley.
