Misael Hernandez was born in Nogales, Veracruz and immigrated into the states at age 5 with his parents. With the life motto “It is better to serve than to receive”, he established the Joabi Society in 1992 which promoted education within the Latino community. Since then he has been committed to nonprofits and community organizations supporting underrepresented students on their journey to education. Misael went on to play a key role in establishing the Foundation Maestro Samuel Joaquin Flores Scholarship. In 2012 Misael was a founding member of La Luz Del Mundo Family Services and is part of the RASP organizing committee for the annual youth leadership conferences. Today he works for the Latino Student Fund’s mentoring program “Te Guio”. Te Guio is a program designed to create opportunities for male youth in DC who lack the familial or economic resources to succeed. Misael graduated from California State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
