From Science to Recovery
SÁÁ, the leading non-profit organization in addiction treatment, education, and recovery services in Iceland, will host a regional conference of the International Society of Addiction Medicine in Iceland in 2027. The conference will mark 50 years of addiction medicine, treatment, and recovery support in Iceland.
Under the theme From Science to Recovery, the conference will highlight the vital connection between research, clinical practice, public health, policy, and lived experience. It will bring together professionals, researchers, policymakers, and recovery advocates from across the Northern region and beyond to share knowledge, explore innovation, and strengthen collaboration in the field of addiction medicine.
In keeping with SÁÁ’s philosophy, the conference and its programme will be accessible and relevant to all professional groups involved in addiction treatment and recovery support. This includes physicians, alcohol and drug counsellors, nurses, practical nurses, social workers, psychologists, and others working in the field, as well as people with a broader interest in addiction, recovery, and public health.
For five decades, SÁÁ has played a leading role in developing evidence-based addiction treatment and recovery-oriented services in Iceland. The 2027 conference will honor this history and look ahead to the future of science-informed and person-centered care.
