Impact of Open Source Software and Systems on the SDI Market
About the Event
Software Defined Infrastructure has been the buzz in the industry for the past 12 to 18 months -- fueled by adoption of public and private clouds, niche players, and the support of large incumbent vendors. These early forays into Software Defined Infrastructure, however, are just the tip of the iceberg. TiE has held a series of events focussed on SDI this year, including a one-day SDI track at TIECon 2013 and a SDI SIG on Software Defined Storage. This panel on Dec 4th will focus on the impact of open source software and systems on the SDI market. How will the open source initiatives such as Open Daylight, Open Contrail, Open Stack etc. impact the market and the industry? Will incumbent vendors embrace these open source initiatives? Will this trend that started in the data center evolve and impact mainstream enterprise and service provider infrastructure? Who will emerge as winners in this transition – will new players up-end the incumbents as usually happens with fundamental technology transitions or will the incumbents respond more nimbly this time around? What problems do customers foresee as they adopt some of these open source solutions? And where are investors placing their bets?
