Molecular dynamics at surfaces and interfaces are crucial for important physical and chemical processes, from solar energy conversion to heterogeneous catalysis. Ultrafast X-ray lasers have enabled X-ray spectroscopy on timescales down to femtoseconds, which is the relevant time scale of molecular dynamics. Surace Science Instrument on RIX beamline is planned to be deployed to follow the ultrafast charge transfer dynamics and chemical transformation in energy storage/utilization and heterogeneous catalytic processes. This workshop seeks to unite the community to discuss current experimental and theoretical advances and remaining challenges/questions that ultrafast x-ray methods could tackle.
