    This Year's Day of Service Will Take Place on 

    Friday, November 10, 2023 

    In general, the Day of Service will run from 8:30am-3:30pm

    Some buses due to the nature of the site or location may depart earlier or later then 8:30am

    There are multiple locations keep scrolling to see them all.

    Finca NOA

    Finca NOA, (New Agroecological Organization), provides educational programing to local residents and aims to address the need of fresh produce on the island. They hope to strengthen the local agricultural system by educating and integrate families into the farming industry.

    CRESPR

    Coalición Restauración Ecosistemas Santurcinos, Puerto Rico

    CRES, the Coalición Restauración de Ecosistemas Santurcinos, is a nonprofit working in Puerto Rico towards restoration and conservations of the natural environment. Their projects have included working on conservation for the coral reefs and dunes, reforestation, cleaning the coastlines and implementing better recycling systems!

    Their Bucaré Urban Garden (BUG) is an urban-community garden and nursery in San Juan, located in the Punta Las Marías area. The site is also used to offer workshops in propagation of plants, bioconstruction, composting and permaculture, and other topics.

    • Skate Park: support skaters in the reconstruction of a ramp, building trash can from wood pallets, painting walls and educational signs

    Para La Naturaleza

    A Day With Para La Naturaleza

    Spend a full day with the amazing team of Para La Naturaleza

    Participants will be broken up into two groups.

    One group will start with El Vivero while the other group is at the Historic Aqueduct, then the groups will switch.

    Lunch will be provided at this site

    Vivero Rio Piedras 

    Para la Naturaleza directs a program known as Árboles, más Árboles (Trees, more Trees), dedicated to producing, distributing and planting endemic and native tree species in Puerto Rico, which are better suited to local soil and climate conditions. The more than 60,000 trees produced every year by Para la Naturaleza’s Native Tree Nurseries are either used for reforestation purposes, sold to the public at selected locations, or given away for free during the annual Conservation and Reforestation Fair.

    Travesías/Crossing at the Museo de las Américas. 

    Private Guided Tour with both esteemed artists, Imna Arroyo, and distinguished curator, Humberto Figueroa.

    Travesias, which means Crossings, is a retrospective of 20 years of Imna Arroyo’s work. It’s a spiritual journey and tribute to the millions of enslaved Africans who lost and gave their lives during the trans-Atlantic slave trade, a story that is difficult to tell yet brilliantly displayed through her work. It is both beautiful and chilling!  The curator, Humberto Figueroa, an international renowned artist from the island, will co-facilitate the tour alongside Imna.

    Busses will depart around 8:30am

    Tour 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

    After the tour, participants are free to enjoy the local San Juan Area.

    Busses will return at 1pm - participants are welcomed to stay and find their own way back to hotel.

    Escuela Santiago Iglesias Pantín

    Join the American Federation of Teachers at Escuela Santiago Iglesias Pantín, this school is in need of cleaning & painting. It is still an active school and during our visit the students will be in class. 

    Things to Know:

    Escuela Esc. Santiago Iglesias Pantín, is located 15 minutes from the host hotel.

    The work at hand is mostly outside.

    Clothing:

    Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes - No sandals, closed toe shoes. 

    Projects that will be done:

    #1. Paint the basketball and play area at the school.

    #2. Design and paint a mural.

    #3. Replace basketball courts.

    #4. Gardening- Clean and paint planters/boxes. Plant Flowers

    Logistics:

    Bus will depart at 9:00am

    Bus departs to hotel at 3pm

    Community Center of Villas Del Sol

    This site is in partnership with Heart911 & The Building Trades

    Work to be done:  At this location participants will repaint the community center, restore the basketball court, outside play area and provide a distribution of goods for those with in the community.

    YMCA of San Juan


    Join the YMCA team and lend a hand in RE-Building the YMCA Community Garden & work on a painting project! 

    The Community Garden will involve children and adults who participate in YMCA Programs as well as community members. Participants will learn how to plant and care for the garden.

     

    Painting Project. This project will make a positive impact on the experience of members and participants, and help the YMCA improve its business operation, resulting in more opportunities to serve the community.

    Join the Red Cross in Cataño, La Puntilla

    Join Red Cross Staff and Volunteers to install lifesaving smoke alarms.

    Cataño, La Puntilla is a waterfront community near Old San Juan. Residents are hardworking and humble people. 

    Join Red Cross team members for a brief training and help install lifesaving smoke alarms. Lunch at a local establishment provided. 

    Bus Departs: 9:30 am 

    Return to the hotel by 3:00pm

    snacks, water and lunch will be provided.

    The New York Foundling is hosting a book and school supply give away for the 130 families served in by their San Juan programs.

    This will be an opportunity to visit one of their 42 sites in Puerto Rico.

    Habitat For Humanity Puerto Rico

    Volunteers are the Heart and the hands of Habitat for Humanity.  They all generously contribute their time and talents to enhance the quality of life for numerous families in our country.

    Volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on experience at one of Habitats construction projects in Fajardo. 

    The volunteer work will encompass tasks such as gardening and yard cleanup, property maintenance, and painting.
