Computerized search systems have evolved over the last sixty years into very powerful and flexible tools. Sometimes the ease of use of the systems lead to missing out on important aspects that can produce results more rapidly that are better and give more certainty than automated searches. This introduction will explain different search algorithms, look at simple methods to speed searches, and explore single compound and mixture searches. This will also involve judging the accuracy of the results. It should be remembered that not all possible samples are represented in the spectral libraries, even though the current size of libraries is quite large.
Attendees can optionally choose to download Wiley’s KnowItAll software and spectral libraries to follow along with the examples as Dr. de Haseth goes through them.

If you intend to follow along with the live identification examples on another computer, you can download and install the software being used in the workshop ahead of time.
Here is the link to download:
- KnowItAll IR/Raman (2-week access to software and libraries)
If you don’t wish to follow along, no worries, you can simply view the examples as Dr. de Haseth goes through them.
We are looking forward to your participation!
