During this period, he went to Japan 9 times to further improve his techniques. Chris obtained his 1st Dan black belt in 1995 from the Japanese Chief Instructor, 8th Dan Fujita Sensei. Then in Oct 2011, he obtained his 2nd Dan black belt in Japan from the founder of Tendoryu Aikido, 8th Dan Kenji Shimizu Sensei. Over the years, Chris helped to set up dojos in the Police Academy, Cheng San CC, and Pinetree Country Club. Later on, Chris set up his own dojo (Tendoryu Aikido Singapore) in 1998. He was also invited by the President of SMRT clubhouse to set up an exclusive dojo to teach taxi drivers and bus drivers basic Aikido techniques for self-defense. He was so popular that he went on to train executive staff from SMRT as well. In 2010, Mediacorp Singapore engaged Chris to choreograph the fighting scenes in the 25-series drama serial "Unriddle".
