Karen is the Program Manager of Captive Programs for the University of California, Office of the President. Current captives under management include Fiat Lux Risk and Insurance Company, a single parent captive and UC Health RRG, A Reciprocal Risk Retention Group. The University of California system consists of 10 University campuses, 5 academic health systems, and 3 national laboratories, incorporating over 240,000 students, 200,000 faculty and staff, $30 billion of annual revenues and more than 1.7 million alumni living and working around the world. As program manager, she helps to develop, implement, and manage these captives and their activities. Partnering with the Executive Director, she plays an integral role to strategically plan and manage the current captive programs as well as to formulate and architect new strategies to utilize the captive in more efficient risk financing arrangements. She has over 7 years of experience in Risk Services at the University of California and is well versed in the risk management sector of higher education institutions. She has been the principal architect of many student, faculty/staff, and alumni liability insurance programs and is currently the lead architect on many of the third-party business captive programs. She was recently named 2018 “Ones to watch” by the industry’s Captive Review publication.
