    The Conference

Webster University's Ninth Annual Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Conference is a transformative gathering where we will collectively explore the theme "Navigating an Unclear Path Together." We hope that you will join us in person and virtually for this momentous event. This year’s conference delves into the intricacies of “Navigating an Unclear Path Together,” with a particular focus on the state of “affirmative action.” We will engage in crucial discussions led by local, regional and national experts, who will provide insight into how the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on affirmative action as well as related state-based interpretations and legislation that impacts and threatens various spheres, including DEI efforts in business and corporate spaces, philanthropic organizations and donors and educational institutions. Our sessions will offer practical solutions and takeaways, shared by experts in these fields, to help navigate the path forward to ensure that DEI efforts continue, even under threat. The conference will also address the challenges that schools and universities face considering efforts to ban Black history education. We recognize the importance of acknowledging and preserving Black history, and we are committed to fostering a space where these conversations can lead to meaningful change. Webster University is dedicated to and takes pride in actively promoting an environment, within our global network and in the broader communities, that encourages open dialogue, celebrates diversity and fosters inclusivity. As we embark on these two days of insightful discussions, thought-provoking panels and collaborative sessions, your presence, whether in-person or virtually, will be integral to the diversity of perspectives that will shape the conversations at this conference. Thank you for being a part of this vital conversation. Your engagement is essential as we work towards a future where diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just ideals but lived realities. Let us foster inclusivity and diversity at the conference! Share your insights and memorable moments using #WebsterDEI when posting about sessions and pictures on social networking sites or platforms. Together, we can amplify the voices and experiences that make our community rich and diverse. #WebsterDEI

    The Keynote Speaker

His keynote remarks will explore the impact of the DEI backlash on young people, as colleges, corporations, philanthropies and other institutions rollback, pause, and/or chill on efforts to ensure their constituencies reflect their communities. He will also consider historical resources in student movements (especially the Black campus and youth movements) for sustaining impact and transformation.

Rev. Dr. Starsky D. Wilson, president and CEO of the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) and CDF Action Council, will be the opening keynote speaker on Monday, February 26, at 7pm (CST).
