"Nthato Moagi was born and bred in the dusty streets of Soweto. As a self-proclaimed ‘rocket scientist turned social engineer', Nthato is passionate about design, technology, innovation and most importantly, education. While completing his BSc Aeronautical Engineering degree at the University of the Witwatersrand, Nthato designed the LCERT (Low Cost Educational Robotics Toy). After graduating in 2014, he went on to work on missiles, drones, and other exciting technologies as an Engineer at Denel Dynamics. After hours, Nthato founded CRSP dsgn, in order to commercialise his LCERT invention for the South African market, as well as to design and develop social innovations that elevate Africa. A few months after being a top 10 finalist at the prestigious 2016 Hack Jozi Challenge competition, Nthato went on to win first place at the 2016 SAB Foundation Social Innovation Awards, where he received grant funding for CRSP dsgn. Nthato is currently performing pilot testing of the LCERT kit, with plans to bring it to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics) classrooms across SA in January 2018. Among his numerous accolades, most recent are his selection as one of the Brightest Young Minds (BYM) of Africa in 2016, as well as his selection as one of the Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans of 2017 under the field of Science & Technology. Nthato continues to share his vision of a better Africa by motivating learners to dream bigger, as well as sharing his ideas with various education, business and STEM stakeholders. In November 2016, he presented a TED Talk on why more successful Africans need to become ""Social Engineers"", in order to create greater social impact on the continent.
