David Kirwan originally started out as an artist with a degree in Art in Environment from Waterford Institute of Technology.
In 1993 David moved to the UK where he trained and worked for a fine art frames until 1996.
1996 -1997 David travelled to Australia where he worked with a picture framers in Sydney before moving on to Auckland New Zealand to work for a another fine art framer there.
In 1998 David returned to the UK where he was asked to set up a factory supplying picture frames to Habitat, Heals and Conran shop in London. David hired and trained the staff before departing in 2000 to set up his own custom frame shop in Ireland.
In April 2000 Artisan Frames opened it’s doors in Clonmel and still trades from here today. Artisan Frames makes bespoke picture frames for Artists, Galleries, Museums and collectors of Fine Art with an emphasis on conservation framing and hand finished frames.
