Educators, business leaders and policymakers recognise the importance of education as a tool to enhance social and economic progress in our city. Learning should continue throughout one’s life and should not stop when one has obtained employment-related qualifications. How can Hong Kong encourage life-long learning in a knowledge-based economy? How are local universities or post-secondary education institutions future-proofing the next generation for jobs that do not yet exist? Or, aligning their current programmes and degrees with the needs of local employers? How are organisations preparing people for the future of work, promoting continuous learning in the workplace, encouraging employees to gain future skills, upskill or acquire new knowledge? How can the Hong Kong government promote life-long learning for students, workers and even stay-at-home parents?
This latest installment of the Redefining Hong Kong series will begin with a short keynote address from SkillsFuture Singapore Chief Executive, Ong Tze'Ch'in, during which he will provide insights as to how Singapore has maintained success in progressing as a learning society, particularly in the wake of Covid-19. Following this address, we will bring together a panel of Hong Kong-based experts to discuss and debate how the corporate and higher education sectors can continue making strides in achieving these similar goals.
