IBM Introduces Supercomputer Watson

In 2011, the supercomputer system Watson reigned victorious against former Jeopardy champions, becoming the first “contestant” to win the $1 million prize award. Ever since, IBM has worked to implement Watson to the Cloud allowing for third party engagement and development. For the first time, IBM plans to release Watson as a development platform in the Cloud, allowing the entrepreneurial community and enterprises to engage via API. This bold move aims to spur innovation and fuel an ecosystem of entrepreneurial software app providers – ranging from startups and VC-backed companies to established players – who will collectively bring forward a new generation of applications infused with Watson's artificial cognitive computing intelligence. Watson has the ability to understand natural language, effectively breaking down the barrier between people and machines. The system then generates hypotheses - recognizing that there are different probabilities of various outcomes. This cognitive sequence will help transform industries such as healthcare and finance by improving diagnostic decisions and investment choices.
