As we prepare for our conference, NACTO and the City of Minneapolis Department of Public Works are in constant communication to plan a safe, inclusive, and supportive gathering.

The headlines and videos cannot fully convey what residents and city staff are going through right now. But we also see community members coming together in peace, care, and hope. And Minneapolis city staff are demonstrating the very civic love and public service that the entire NACTO community champions.

Our Minneapolis partners are committed to welcoming you and sharing their city and its resilience. When we gather for Designing Cities, we will do so with impact, deep discussion, and even joy.

    Our Cohost: Minneapolis

NACTO’s 14th annual Designing Cities Conference brings us to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our cohosts at the Minneapolis Department of Public Works have a lot to show off—from how they handle winter maintenance to their framework for embedding equity in transportation decision-making. Check out the agenda to learn more about WalkShop tours of everything from the city’s skyways to the region’s BRT infrastructure.

Conference attendees will experience award-winning parks and trails, major regional investment in public transit, and one of the best bike networks in the nation. They’ll have the opportunity to tour Minneapolis, St. Paul, and other communities served by the region’s Metro Transit system.

The Twin Cities region is home to vibrant Indigenous, Black, East African, Southeast Asian, and Latinx communities that contribute to its social and economic fabric. But these groups are impacted by structural racism, historic disinvestment, and inequitable transportation and land use decisions. Minneapolis is tackling this unequal access through robust engagement efforts and a commitment to transportation equity.
