    EdPro Power Hour:
    The Hive and the Sting

    Led by:

    Executive Director, E&I Cooperative Services
    &

    Casey Laurienzo

Vice President of Community Engagement & Education, E&I Cooperative Services

    Session Overview

The 'Queen Bee' narrative, the idea that successful women turn on other women, is convenient, widespread, and largely unexamined. This session challenges it. Grounding the discussion in December 2025 survey of women in procurement and supply chain leadership, alongside established research on tokenism, social identity, and the glass cliff, the speakers show that intrasexual competition is rarely a character flaw. It is a rational response to structural pressures: hyper-visibility, double standards, and an environment that too often leaves room for only one woman at the top. Participants will leave with a clear, evidence-based framework for recognizing these dynamics across the supply chain and a practical set of moves to dismantle them.

    What Participants Will Gain

    • Understand why 'Queen Bee' friction is better explained by structure than by personality, and what the survey data reveal
    • Learn how four forces, social identity threat, tokenism, the glass cliff, and artificial scarcity, shape behaviour across procurement and the wider supply chain
    • Recognize the everyday signals of these dynamics, from indirect exclusion to the 'pet to threat' shift, and the conditions that drive them
    • Identify concrete actions, from reaching critical mass to rewiring performance metrics, that leaders can apply immediately to build a more supportive culture

    Session Information

Join Dr. Lenora Sevillian and Casey Laurienzo, PMP, of E&I Cooperative Services for an engaging EdPro Power Hour that reframes one of the most persistent and least examined dynamics in our profession: the friction between women in procurement and supply chain leadership, popularly labelled 'Queen Bee' behaviour. Drawing on original survey research and decades of practice, this fireside chat moves the conversation away from blaming individuals and toward redesigning the conditions that produce the conflict.
