Q: On what date will the 2020 School Leaders of Color Conference be held? |
A: The 2020 conference will take place Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8. Programming will begin at 8 am on Friday, February 7, so we encourage out of town attendees to arrive on Thursday evening. |
Q: Where can I submit a proposal to facilitate a workshop at the 2020 School Leaders of Color Conference? A: The deadline to submit workshop proposal was 11:59 PM local time on Monday, September 23rd, 2019. Accepted proposal leads will be notified by mid October. |
Q: Where will the 2020 School Leaders of Color Conference be held? |
A: The conference will be held in Lake Las Vegas, Nevada. |
Q: Who should register to attend this conference? |
A: This conference is open to alumni school and school systems leaders who identify as people of color or Native/Indigenous - this includes principals, assistant principals, principal supervisors, and other administrators working in schools, districts, or charter management organizations. |
Q: Can corps members attend this conference? |
A: No. The focus and professional development offered at this conference is specifically targeted to current alumni school/school systems leaders. |
Q: Can Teach for America staff members attend this conference? A: Not as traditional attendees. A limited number of staff members may attend the conference as volunteers to support the core planning team in running the conference. A staff interest survey will be circulated later this fall. |
Q: Can employers attend this conference? |
A: Many of our attendees come to this conference interested in networking for future career roles. Given that, we will offer a resource and opportunities fair for this purpose. If you are an employer interested in attending, please contact SLOC@teachforamerica.org. |
Q: Can I attend this conference if I am a white ally and school or system leader? |
A: While we recognize that many of the themes and skills throughout this conference are applicable to any leader, this is a dedicated space for leaders of color to convene on their unique experiences and perspectives. If you have further questions, please reach out to SLOC@teachforamerica.org. |
Q: Are there financial aid opportunities available? |
A: Yes, we are offering a limited amount of financial assistance to Teach For America alumni school and system leaders of color. Additional details about financial aid will be shared when registration launches in late October 2019. |
Q: When should I book my travel to the conference? How can I book a hotel room for the conference? A: You should book your travel accommodations as early as possible to secure the best deal available.
